Damon knew the getting-away-to-think thing was similar to the claims to go shopping. If all she’d needed was time to think, she wouldn’t have kept it a secret. He placed the paper back on the counter and walked to her bedroom. The room was just as spotless as the rest of the apartment.

He opened the door to her walk-in closet. She didn’t have a large wardrobe and had even told him once that she didn’t need a lot of clothing. There were clothes still hanging from the rod, a few sweaters neatly folded on shelves, and shoes lined up in cubbies. Letting out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding, he left the apartment and locked the door behind him.

When he’d walked into her closet, a part of him had feared she’d packed up everything she’d owned and left for good.

He flashed up one floor to Meredith and Jack’s apartment and knocked on the door.

Jack answered and waved him in. “Morning. Want some coffee?”

“Sure.” Damon looked around the apartment that was almost identical to Morgana’s. “Where’s Meredith?”

“She had an early meeting at the office.”

“So no running this morning?”

“Oh yes,” Jack said, dragging out the s. “We went out really early.” Jack passed Damon a mug and held up his own. “Thus, the coffee. My second cup.”

Damon chuckled and lifted his coffee in thanks before taking a sip. “Have you seen Morgana this morning?”

The corner of Jack’s lip twitched. “I knew you hadn’t come just to catch up. And no, I haven’t seen her in a couple of days. I can check with Meredith.” Jack’s face lost all expression and Damon figured he was mentally talking to his wife. “No, Meredith hasn’t seen her either,” Jack said, confirming Damon’s guess.

“I didn’t realize you could communicate over such long distances… Anyway…” Damon perched on a stool and wrapped his hands around his mug. “I think Morgana left.”

“Left? As in packed up all her shit and isn’t coming back?”

“I don’t know. Most of her stuff looks like it’s still in her apartment, but she left a note that said she had to get away for a few days to think.”

“You don’t believe her?”

Damon let out a large sigh. “I don’t know. She’s lied a couple of times, saying she had to go shopping when she was really doing something else. I got the sense yesterday that she’s up to something now too.”

“Like what?”

“I think she left to find a woman named Sam.”

Jack looked off into the distance for a few moments and then turned back to Damon. “I just asked Meredith and she doesn’t know anyone named Sam.”

“I think Morgana’s memories are coming back and something she saw at Copeland’s yesterday may have triggered a memory about her. The girl was someone who was in captivity with her.”

“The fuck? I’m guessing Morgana dragged you to Copeland’s?”

“I caught her sneaking off and gave her a lift. I didn’t want her to have to go to Copeland’s place alone.”

Jack topped off both their coffee mugs before he spoke again.
